Mao Bamboo is one of the fastest growing bamboos in the world. In the fastest growing period, within 24 hours it can grow 119 cm, within 40 to 50 days it can be a plant with the length of 24-meter. A bamboo plant with 10 cm diameter and 20 meter length, from a bamboo shoot to a ready-to-fell bamboo, takes only two months. If it is  used as raw material for bamboo fibre, it can be felled in the same year if used as a building material, then it needs a  growing period for from 3 to 5 years to reinforce and then can be cut down. Not only bamboo shoots come out yearly but also bamboo can be cut down yearly. Once bamboo has been planted, it can grow up and be cut down continuously.  

    Compare bamboo with normal hardwood, the latter needs a period of 25 to 70 years for growing up, and moreover the influence of his growing on environment needs about 10 years to recover. For instance, the circulation period of larch and pinus var. mogonlica in North is from 30 to 50 years respectively, meanwhile the rotation of Chinese red pin in South takes from 20 to 30 years, and the eucalypt, poplar from 5 to 7 years. But bamboo can be felled every year, with selecting the grown one and leave the younger.    Research shows, bamboo forest per hectare can reserve 1,000 ton water, in summer it can increase the relative humidity of air from five to seven percent. The average intercepting rate of rainfall in bamboo forest is 11%. Additionally, bamboo forest is able to ease the greenhouse effect. Compare to the similar area of normal wood forest, bamboo forest can absorb five times more greenhouse gas, release 35% more oxygen. Furthermore,  bamboo needs more nitrogen, her root is able to keep the nitrogen effectively, and therefore fertilize the soil.
